As Nepal and China mark 70 years of enduring friendship, a significant academic event—the China-Nepal Academic Conference—was organized to celebrate this historic relationship and promote collaborative progress in the field of medicine and public health.
Supported by the Shaanxi Association for the Promotion of International Medical Exchanges, the conference served as a high-level academic platform, bringing together scholars, researchers, and clinicians from both countries to share expertise, present ongoing research, and discuss future avenues for collaboration.
The session was chaired by Professor Fu Yong Jiao, a prominent academic leader in China, who emphasized the importance of cross-border academic partnerships in tackling today’s global health challenges.
A keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Duan Jianglong, Vice President of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, focusing on “80 Years of Development and Innovation in Chinese Healthcare.” His insightful talk shed light on China’s evolving healthcare landscape, recent advancements in medical infrastructure, and the country’s long-standing commitment to innovation in public health.
From Nepal, Dr. Ram Hari Chapagain presented a critical update on infectious diseases, particularly Dengue fever and Chikungunya, highlighting the shared burden of these vector-borne illnesses in the region. He advocated for joint surveillance systems, collaborative research, and shared intervention strategies between Nepal and China.
In line with World Breastfeeding Week 2025, Dr. Santosh Adhikari delivered a compelling presentation on research into knowledge and practices around infant feeding in Nepal. His session underscored the need for maternal and child health education, and proposed future Nepal-China joint studies focusing on infant and young child nutrition.
The event was attended by around 50 participants, including senior medical professionals, researchers, and public health advocates. The interactive sessions reflected the shared vision of both countries to promote knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and academic training in the health sector.
This academic conference reaffirmed the spirit of cooperation between China and Nepal, not just diplomatically, but through shared goals in medical science, innovation, and education. It laid the groundwork for deeper bilateral engagement in addressing health challenges of mutual concern.
