Newly Elected Executive Team Officially Takes Oath of Office and Assumes Responsibility

The newly elected Executive Committee of theNepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) officially took the oath of office todayat a formal ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter.
The new Executive Board, under theleadership of tourism entrepreneur Mr. Phur Gyalje Sherpa, was electedfollowing the election held on 23rd August 2025. Chief Election Officer Mr.Bhawesh Gautam administered the oath of office and also presented electioncertificates to all the newly elected office bearers and board members.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, outgoingGeneral Secretary Mr. Mohan Lamsal handed over the minute book to the newlyelected General Secretary Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Lama. Outgoing Treasurer Mr.Mukti Pandey also handed over the cheque books to the newly elected Treasurers,Ms. Sumi Moktan and Mr. Ngima Nurbu Sherpa. Since there was a tie in the vote,Ms. Moktan and Mr. Sherpa will serve half of the term each.
Outgoing President Mr. Nima Nuru Sherpaexpressed his gratitude to all the supporters who contributed to the growth ofNMA during his tenure. “During my tenure, I didn’t entertain the interests ofany individual or group, nor did I attempt to satisfy personal needs,” saidoutgoing President Mr. Sherpa, “Whatever we have done, we did with transparencyand in favor of the organization. I hope the new team will continue on thispath.”
He also suggested that the new ExecutiveCommittee should carry on the training programs and welfare funds. “We havefixed deposits of 2 crores under various names, including a welfare fundallocated for scholarships to children whose parents lost their lives whileworking in the mountains. We have also developed the first-evergovernment-approved curriculum for mountaineering-related training and startedoffering insurance facilities at fairly low price for NMA-registered mountainguides, which has helped our resource members save millions,” he added. “Ibelieve this Executive Committee will continue these initiatives.”
President Mr. Phur Gyalje Sherpa also pledgedto continue these programs with top priority. “I am well aware of the effortsmade by this Executive Committee, and I appreciate all of them,” PresidentSherpa stated. “Regarding the training and welfare funds, we will continuethese programs with the utmost priority for the betterment of Nepal’s mountaintourism and the welfare of mountain communities.”
On the dais, Honorable member of the BagmatiProvince Parliament, Yankila Sherpa, and Director General of the Department ofTourism (DoT), Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, thanked the outgoing ExecutiveCommittee for their contributions to the advancement of Nepal’s mountaintourism and extended best wishes to the newly sworn-in Executive Committee fora successful tenure.
Mr. Ishwori Paudel has been elected SeniorVice President, while record-holding climber Mr. Mingma Gyabu Sherpa waselected 1st Vice President, and Mr. Bodh Raj Bhandari was elected 2nd Vice President.
Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Lama has secured thepost of General Secretary, and Mr. Chandan Thapa has been elected Secretary.Mr. Mulal Gurung, Mr. Thupden Sherpa, Mr. Dendi Sherpa, Mr. Rinje Sherpa, Mr.Bikram Karki, Mr. Kedar Neupane, Mr. Devendra Dangol, Mr. Gokul Thapa, Mr.Madhav Kumar Dhamala, Ms. Nisha Bhote, and Ms. Diki Sherpa were elected asCentral Executive Board members.
